The body has a story to tell.

A monthly space for live events, Anatomy Talks, and Community Lectures, open to anyone who wants in.

Once a month we open something up to the greater community: a live, hour-long online gathering built around anatomy, curiosity, and the questions that don't have simple answers. We like to delve in and untwist that which seems static and untwistable.

These come in two forms, Anatomy Talks and Community Lectures, and we alternate between them. One month it's an Anatomy Talk, the next it's a Community Lecture, and so forth. Both are live and both run about an hour, but they're built for different things.

Both types of events are pay what you can and the proceeds (minus transaction fees) help us build out the Moving Mountain Institute BIPOC Tuition Assistance Fund.

You’ll also sometimes find other juicy offerings like a book club and special events like live treatment demonstrations.

Anatomy Talk

An Anatomy Talk is a close, slow unfurling and exploration into one part of the body. The topic could focus on a layer, a system, a region, or set of tissues. Michael curates and leads each lecture, drawing on material from Gil Hedley's dissection work (gilhedley.com) and what Michael has learned firsthand in clinical practice, teaching, and Gil's dissection classes over the years.

As fellow somanauts, we’ll walk through the body together, and there's room for questions and discussion as it unfolds. Because of the agreements we have with our donors and dissection partners, these sessions aren't recorded.

Some current and past topics: Textural Differences by Layer, The Embodied Vagal System: Diaphragm to Guts, The Myodural Bridge, Craniosacral Therapy Anatomy, The Blood Pelvis, and The Messy Membranes.

Community Lecture

A Community Lecture is a shorter lecture by Michael with an open discussion. Like Anatomy Talks, they're live and run an hour long, but we delve into a broader range of ideas: sometimes anatomy, sometimes an issue affecting bodywork professions, sometimes a book or article that Michael has been thinking about lately.

Unlike Anatomy Talks, these events are recorded. If you sign up, you can attend live and get access to the lecture recording on-demand later.

Past topics have included From the Brainstem to the Cervical Plexuses: A Continuity of Expression, Unpacking the Interstitium, Neuro Presentations of HSD/EDS, and Vagal System Reframed for Hands-On Practitioners.
